Meatless Mondays in <March>

Not that long ago, most people didn’t know that eating less meat was an easy way to go greener. The Alliance partnered with local restaurants to promote meatless menu items for a month. Click here to learn more.

Composting Workshop

As part of her Chicago Conservation Corps experience, South Loop resident, Sarah Cardona, planned, designed and hosted a fantastic day-long workshop on many different aspects and kinds of composting. It was a hit! Click here for more details.

Green, Greener, Greenest Recognition Program

A friendly competition to recognize efforts by South Loop residential buildings, businesses, and organizations to go greener. Click here for more detail.

Shared Air, Shared Action

The South Loop was one of four Chicago communities partnering on an EPA-funded research project, to learn how well residents could use small, inexpensive air monitors, and how well the monitors worked. We learned a lot about our neighboring communities that deal with environmental justice issues. Click here to learn more about this project.

Ferd Kramer Rain Garden

The Alliance partnered with many to convert a neglected open space to a little urban oasis with stormwater management through swales and a rain garden. Named for the founder of Dearborn Park. Click here for more details.

Veggie Chili Cook-Off

As part of the 2017 Meatless Mondays in May, we hosted a vegetarian chili cook-off. Click here for more details.

CartWheels

To promote walking-to-shop in the community, we partnered with Gordon’s South Loop Ace hardware to offer discounts on shopping carts, and featured a “pop up” walk-to-shop-together event. Click here for more details.

Clean and Green

Over the years, the Alliance has partnered with ward offices to support volunteer crews in annual clean and green events. Click here for more details.
